Computers are used throughout the school by all…
Our youth learn essential computer/technology skills and are given the opportunity to go where their passions lead them. Students utilize Google Apps by producing homework assignments in Google Docs and presentations in Google Slides. Each student also creates their own WordPress website which may ultimately serve as an electronic portfolio of their work at Saint James Catholic School. All students have the opportunity to provide input into the yearbook, which is a year-long photography and desktop publishing project. Typing is taught and reinforced in 3rd to 5th grades.
Additionally, our students participate each fall in The Hour of Code. We expand this by utilizing the full 20 unit course and we take the whole month to work through it. K-3 students utilize Kodable on the iPads for similar instruction. Our Ninja-Te.ch afterschool program gives our students another opportunity to learn programming with Google’s CS-First and MIT’s Scratch platform.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in either our First Lego League or First Tech Challenge teams. Students meet after school and Saturday mornings.
